  • Action is the Lifeblood of Your Business Vision

    February 26, 2012

I know I’ve talked a lot to you about your dreams and not being afraid to spend time being creative.

But, in life and business, there’s a point where you have to pull yourself from the clouds and start putting your plan to work for you.

Creativity is dead unless you have corresponding action to back it up. That’s why somewhere along the line, dreaming about doing something can become a hindrance in itself if you never close the deal on actually making it reality.

I can remember being pumped up in the creative process about several of BBI’s franchise concepts and then hitting the wall when we actually had to implement the nuts and bolts.

Drawing it out on a napkin just seemed so much more fun than dealing with problematic strategy, a bunch of legal jargon and hard wire issues of operation. It came down to really making the decision to think about it in a new way. I had to learn to pull the trigger on the process to get it moving when it’s so comfortable to sit there and dream about it instead.

Remember, the theoretical is always the safest place to be. There’s no risk to dreaming, but, getting down in the nitty gritty and making your idea a tangible reality, now, that takes risk...it can be a scary step, but it’s also the most rewarding thing you can do.

Granted I’m able now to leave a lot of the details to others...That’s why I surround myself with those who are experts at accomplishing specific technical tasks and seeing that the creative is projected accurately in the here and now. But, I can’t be afraid to throw the switch and give the green light.

You’ve heard the term, “carpe diem.” Seize the day. That’s the way we really need to think.

My encouragement is NOT to wake up at some point in the future wondering why you’ve never been able to fulfill your dreams. Take some time to shape them and find the courage to act.

Seizing the moment while the getting’s good will ignite the flames behind your  business vision and cause your inspired concepts to take on a life of their own.
